Beauty contest finalists showed their drive to succeed when they dragged a pink Mini convertible to raise money for charity.

The 12 Miss England finalists used a tow rope to pull the car 15 metres in central London with last year's winner Laura Coleman in the driving seat.

The show of strength raised £5,000 towards a fundraising target of £35,000 to be divided between The Variety Club, eating disorders charity B-Eat, and The National Autistic Society.

The event was in advance of the Miss England grand final on Monday.

"The girls have been working really hard and we are all thrilled that they have managed to raise so much for these worthy charities," said Angie Beasley, organiser of the Miss England contest.

"It just goes to show that our girls have big hearts as well as healthy bodies."
