Two new cases of swine flu have been confirmed - bringing the total number of cases in the UK to 15, the Department of Health said.

The latest concern an adult in the North West and a child in the South East who have both been confirmed with the disease.

There are now 12 confirmed cases of the virus in England and three in Scotland, said the Department.

Both confirmed cases are associated with travel to Mexico, the Health Protection Agency said.

"Following a thorough risk assessment, no school closure is necessary in relation to the South East case as the child did not exhibit symptoms while attending school," a spokesman added.

A total of 631 cases were under investigation.

A Department of Health spokesman said: "Two new cases have been confirmed - an adult in the North West and a child in the South East.

"There are now 15 confirmed cases in the UK - 12 in England and three in Scotland.

"The arrangements in place across the UK are continuing to ensure that we are well-placed to deal with this new infection."
