Search: Euthanasia Philip Nitschke
A controversial Australian doctor who backs euthanasia has been allowed into the UK after an interview at Heathrow Airport, his lawyer said.
Mark Stephens, who represents Dr Philip Nitschke, said misinformation had been spread about the medic's visit to Britain.
The Australian doctor has come to the UK to give pro-euthanasia talks to groups of supporters of his organisation Exit International.
Although he invented a computer which would allow terminally ill people to take their own life, he does not have such a machine with him, Mr Stephens said.
He added: "We've had a film of someone going to Switzerland and dying, which is a stage further down the road than Dr Nitschke who is just giving talks."
The doctor will be in the UK for two weeks giving talks at various locations including Bournemouth, Brighton, Stroud and Glasgow.
In 1996 he became the first doctor to give four patients lethal injections legally when it was permitted under Australian law in the Northern Territory.
He used his computer device, called the Deliverance Machine, to end their lives when euthanasia was legal during that period. The users answered a series of questions to confirm their wishes.
Assisted suicide was made illegal again in 1997.

He has also co-written a book called The Peaceful Pill eHandbook, which details eight ways that terminally ill people can kill themselves.
