Britain's Oldest Dinosaur To Be Excavated
BRISTOL, ENGLAND - Judyth Sassoon, a master’s degree student in paleontology examines a rock containing fossil remains of a Thecondontosaurus antiquus, which is the oldest known dinosaur in Britain and one of the oldest in the world on November 3, 2009 in Bristol, England. Scientists at the University of Bristol have been awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to excavate the dinosaur - which has lain entombed in rock for more than 210 million years - as part of the Bristol Dinosaur project and will see a complete skeletal reconstruction of the dinosaur attempted for the first time. The first fossilized remains of the so-called ''Bristol Dinosaur'' were discovered at Tytherington Quarry in South Gloucestershire in the 1970s but it has taken until today to secure the funding to excavate a complete specimen.
