Discount stores firm Poundland is to recruit 2,000 temporary staff to work in the run-up to Christmas, it has been announced.
The jobs, for sales assistants, will run until Christmas Eve, although last year 500 temporary staff became full-time employees.
Poundland said the response from jobseekers had been "fantastic", with 500 people applying for 30 vacancies in Walsall.
Chief executive Jim McCarthy said: "We need five or six extra colleagues in each store to help us cope with the busiest time of the year.
"We're looking for applicants with enthusiasm and determination, and people who are hard-working to help deliver amazing value and service to our customers."
Poundland said it was now serving more than four million customers every week at its 360 UK stores and expects the figure to increase by a million over the next few weeks.
