Say what you like about George Michael but you can never accuse him of being bog standard.
Everything he does in and out of the (water) closet is unique, exhilarating and progressive. His new studio album 'Patience' may have been weighed down by label changes, political roundabouts and constant delays but the finished product is one of the best of Michael's career.
The album kicks off with classic George with the brilliant title track and is quickly followed up by the equally magical 'Amazing'.
Elsewhere the controversial 'Shoot The Dog' gets another airing as does a reworked version of former single 'Freeeek!'.
The fallen heroes eulogy of 'John And Elvis (Are Dead)' is the highlight though, proving that George Michael is still one of the most innovative and imaginative songwriters around.
'Patience' is George Michael at his sublime peak. A thrilling return to form from one of Britain's greatest talents.
