2001-09-13Ash release new single Candy, taken from their No.1 album Free All Angels, on 24 September.
A definite change in tempo, the single sees Mr Wheeler and co provide a positive post-summer comedown in what has been described as the "frothy, bizarre, but beautiful" aural shape of Candy.
The song itself is loosely based around a sample lifted from the Bacharach/David penned Walker Brothers classic, Take It Easy On Yourself and sees Ash in a less frenetic but nevertheless uplifting mood.
The video for Candy marks a departure for Ash. A colourful, humour-filled story of our hero's (Tim's) attempts to win the heart of a young waitress called Candy at a star-studded wedding reception.

Among the guests are look-a-likes of Michael Jackson, George Michael and even Robert De Niro.
Tim and the band are seen dressed in their finest 70s and 80s livery playing from a neon-lit stage at the reception. As Candy clumsily wreaks havoc on the proceedings - falling over, dropping food and drink - she catches Tim's eye.
With the aid of his bandmates Tim employs all manner of tricks to get her attention - an extending stage, huge signs bearing her name, spotlights - all of which she is apparently oblivious to.
Befitting the romantic theme of the song Ash also rerecorded the song in French - the first time any of the group's songs have been translated and recorded by the band.
