Black eyed peas perform surprise new york show

The Black Eyed Peas treated fans to a surprise concert in New York on Wednesday night (10Mar10), despite police threatening to cancel the event.

The Boom Boom Pow hitmakers performed an impromptu gig, which was attended by 10,000 people in the city's Times Square, to launch a new Samsung 3D TV.

The band only announced the concert on the internet 30 minutes before showtime - because cops were worried they would be overwhelmed by fans flocking to attend the performance.

Frontman will.i.am says, "We weren't able to promote the concert up until 30 minutes before the show.

"So on DipDive and Twitter, we sent out the message that we were performing in the location and in 30 minutes, 10,000 people popped up. That showed us the power of the new world, communication, technology."
