Bellefire joined us to talk about their single, 'Spin The Wheel', out late October 2004.
As a group who or what is your greatest musical inspiration?
Kelly - I think all of us would agree that it's U2. They've just done such amazing things since they formed; written such amazing songs and affected so many people that you couldn't really ask for a greater inspiration.
Ciara - For their first few albums there was no great buzz about the band, but they were just allowed to develop and progress ever so slowly into this incredible, one-in-a-million band. Probably the biggest band in the world. It's how we like to see music being made, as a kind of gradual development, a learning curve...
Cathy - We've also taken inspiration from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald/ Nina Simone/ Billie Holiday - these are all incredible songwriters and we all just absolutely love them.
Where do you think pop music is 'at' at the moment?<
Kelly - I think it's a weird time at the moment for pop music. I mean what is 'pop music' now? Unfortunately the definition of 'pop' in a musical sense has been changed so much that it now just describes this nothing, kind of plastic music. Pop music to us is nothing of the sort. All music that we love - from Keane through to Joss Stone - is pop music. It's popular that's it!
Ciara - We play pop music, and we're a very proud pop music band!
Cathy - Good pop music is coming back!
Do you support legal downloading? Do you have any experiences of it in discovering new music?
Cathy - I think there are good points and bad points about it. I haven't quite made up my mind!
Ciara - It gives you the opportunity to experience new music and new bands which is just great. I've done quite a bit of downloading recently - it's just so easy! - And I'm really excited about the opportunities it's going to bring to the industry.
Cathy - This time next year everyone will be doing it!
Are you jealous of anyone in the music industry?
Kelly - Not really at the moment, but we do have massive amount of respect for The Corrs! We get compared to them all the time!
Ciara - I think it's inevitable that we're going to get compared to them, but they've just achieved so much in their careers and they're just the loveliest people too!
Cathy - We're quite different to them when you think about it, we're not as traditional, more guitar-based and we're definitely more harmony-driven because we've got the three vocals! But The Corrs are definitely a band we look up to!
What's the worst possible pick up line someone has tried on you?
Kelly %u2013 I remember once when we were in a club and a guy came up to me and started chatting to me and suddenly asked if I ever thought about having kids. Then he said that if I did he'd happily be the donor!
Ciara %u2013 Urgh! That's revolting!
Cathy %u2013 We are always getting the normal ones, you know %u2013 your father must have been a thief, because he stole the stars and put them in your eyes! %u2013 But they're normally done with a smile on the guys face. It's quite funny really!
Could you tell us a little more about the single please?
Kelly %u2013 It's called 'Spin The Wheel' and it's out on the 4th October and it's all about taking a chance at something. It can be love/ life or just simply going for whatever you believe in. It's a really positive single and we absolutely love it!
Who would you most like to be a fan?
Ciara %u2013 Chris Martin from Coldplay would be great! We love the track he recently did with Jamelia and we'd really love the opportunity to record a track with him. Kelly %u2013 So Chris if you%u2019re out there give us a shout!
Thanks Dave/ Tiscali!
Love Cathy, Ciara, and Kelly xx
