More than 40 years after the Beatles were banned from playing in Israel, McCartney-mania has taken hold in Tel Aviv for Sir Paul's 'Friendship First' concert.

Since the 1970s, rock stars have been involved in raising money for worthy causes. In 1971 at New York’s Madison Square Gardens, George Harrison, Ravi Shankar, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan and others took to the stage and raised money for UNICEF with The Concert for Bangladesh.

From then on, more and more artists have been queueing up to offer their services, and in most cases their takings, for free.

We pick out the most high profile do-gooders in music today and some of the causes they support.
