As the winner is announced and the £20,000 prize is handed over, we round-up the 12 UK albums nominated for this year's Mercury Music Prize.

The shortlist, chosen from an entry of over 240 UK albums was announced by Lauren Laverne at Covent Garden’s The Hospital Club, and the winner was awarded at the Grosvenor Hotel on September 9.

The 12 nominations were:

ADELE - 19
‘19’ is the debut album from 19-year-old Londoner Adele Adkins. The album, on XL Recordings, went to number one on its release in January 2008 and has since gone platinum in the UK. ‘19’ features the hit singles ‘Hometown Glory’, ‘Chasing Pavements’ and ‘Cold Shoulder’.
