Grieving bromfield and ronson cancel gigs

Amy Winehouse’s singer goddaughter Dionne Bromfield has pulled out of all media commitments following the Rehab hitmaker’s death.The Grammy winner was found dead at her north London home on Saturday afternoon (23Jul11) at the age of 27.Bromfield honoured a booking at a festival in Wales just two hours after news of her musical mentor’s death broke, but now the 15 year old is cancelling all her bookings to grieve.The teen says, “I’m totally devastated… Amy was my inspiration,” while a message posted on her Twitter.com page reads, “Forever in my heart…. love you always amy.”Meanwhile, Winehouse’s friend and collaborator Mark Ronson, who produced the star’s breakthrough album Back to Black, scrapped his DJ set at the Cartier International Polo event in Windsor on Sunday (24Jul11).

Plant plays tiny village show for late producer pal

Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant thrilled fans by turning up at a tiny village hall in Wales to play a surprise set.The rocker stunned 200 locals when he took to the stage at a community venue in Monmouth, south Wales earlier this month (Jul11), where revellers paid just £3 to see him perform.Plant joined three local musicians at the charity gig held in memory of the rocker’s producer pal Pat Moran, who died in January (11).His set included several Zeppelin numbers, as well as solo material.Fan Darren Martin tells The Sun, “It was amazing – he’s a rock god and he was playing in a village hall. It was a real honour to be there – and he chatted with the audience afterwards.”

Lydon's lyrics destroyed in house fire

Punk icon John Lydon has lost new Public Image Ltd. song lyrics and ideas in a house fire.The This is Not a Love Song singer has revealed his London home was destroyed in a blaze earlier this month (Jul11) – as he was preparing to take the stage for a show in Italy.No one was harmed in the fire, but Lydon now has the task of rewriting the song lyrics for new PiL tracks.He tells the BBC, “My wife rang me up just before we were going on stage (and) said, ‘Oh John, I don’t want to disturb you. The house has burned down.’”

Kingston makes comeback at spears show

Sean Kingston showed fans he is in good health after his jet ski crash with a performance alongside Nicki Minaj at a Britney Spears concert on Friday (22Jul11).The Beautiful Girls hitmaker was left in a critical condition after the accident in Miami, Florida in May (11) and spent nearly a month in hospital recovering from his injuries.Kingston picked Spears’ Femme Fatale trek to make his stage comeback, proving he is recovering well with a surprise appearance at the city’s AmericanAirlines Arena.The 21 year old joined Spears’ opening act Minaj to perform their track Letting Go (Dutty Love), sending the crowd into a frenzy.He later took to his Twitter.com page to share his excitement, writing, “Just killed it on stage with the lovely Nicki Minaj. Had an amazing time, feels great to be back on stage esp. with the hottest female out.”Minaj also tweeted, “Whoa! Sean Kingston just SHUT MIAMI DOWN with me at the Femme Fatale Tour!!! Thank you… soooo much!!!!”

Rihanna's s&m lawsuit heading to trial

Rihanna’s legal battle with David Lachapelle over her S&M music video is heading to trial after a judge in New York granted the famed photographer permission to continue his case against the singer.The celebrity snapper sued the star earlier this year (11) over allegations her controversial promo, which was banned in 11 countries across the world, was “directly derived” from some of his images.The case went to court in New York and in a ruling released on Thursday (21Jul11), U.S. District Judge Shira Scheindlin noted alleged similarities between the music video and LaChapelle’s work and paved the way for the lawsuit to go to trial.Judge Scheindlin dismissed LaChapelle’s claims of trade-dress infringement, unfair competition and unjust enrichment, but allowed him to proceed with his allegation of copyright violation.A conference between the parties is scheduled for 10 August (11).

Jessie j to make comeback at mobos

Jessie J will make her return to the stage at the upcoming MOBO awards, three months after breaking her foot and scrapping her entire summer (11) tour schedule.The Price Tag hitmaker fell over during a rehearsal for a gig in London and was forced to perform her set at Glastonbury in June (11) sitting down. She subsequently discovered she has broken her foot in two places and axed the rest of her upcoming shows to recover.She has now announced she will make her live return with a performance at the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards in Scotland in October (11).Jessie J says in a statement, “I cannot wait to rock the stage – I have always wanted to perform at the MOBO Awards and it’s an honour to be asked. Good times.”The show takes place in Glasgow, Scotland on 5 October (11).

Slipknot eye u.s. tour in 2012

Slipknot are eyeing a U.S. tour next year (12) after a series of comeback shows in Europe left them feeling more “positive” about the future of the band following the death of bassist Paul Gray.The rockers recently played dates in the U.K. and across mainland Europe as part of the Sonisphere travelling festival, marking their return to the stage following the tragedy last year (10).They had previously thrown the group’s future into doubt by warning fans they might never record a new album – but frontman Corey Taylor has now confirmed they have held talks about a U.S. tour next year following their Sonisphere success.He tells HardDrive Radio, “Definitely after this tour, I’m definitely much more positive than I was. Am I ready to run into a studio? No. Everybody just slow down, because it’s still very fresh to me. It still doesn’t make sense yet, you know, there’s still a lot of healing that we’ve got to do before we can get there.”Am I open to more tours? Absolutely. I mean, we’ve talked about doing something next year in the States and, you know, letting the fans kind of celebrate as well. So time will tell.”Taylor also thanked fans who attended their set at Sonisphere shows and observed the two-minute silence in honour of their late bandmate, adding: “The whole tour has been great. Thank you to everyone who came and everyone who participated in the two minutes of silence for Paulie – he would have been so proud.”Gray died from an accidental drug overdose in a motel room in Iowa in May last year.

Rihanna and jay-z thrill new jersey crowd

Rihanna thrilled gig-goers at her show in New Jersey on Thursday night (21Jul11) by performing with her mentor Jay-Z.The Bajan beauty put on a concert at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey and she opened her encore with an appearance from the hip-hop giant, who emerged from beneath the stage on a circular platform.Jay-Z then launched into collaborative track Run This Town, before joining Rihanna on her chart-topping Umbrella, according to The Star-Ledger.

Rock legends feted at mojo awards

Rock legends Ringo Starr, John Lydon and Brian Wilson were honoured at the 2011 Mojo awards in London on Thursday night (21Jul11).The Beatles legend was the main attraction at the magazine’s annual prizegiving, as he collected his Mojo Icon prize, while Beach Boys frontman Wilson was entered into the Mojo Hall Of Fame.Lydon didn’t let his punk fans down as he gave a expletive-packed acceptance speech after being handed an Outstanding Contribution to Music award on behalf of his reformed band Public Image Ltd.Arctic Monkeys beat U.S. rockers Arcade Fire to the Best Album award for Suck It and See record; Song of the Year went to Heathen Child by Nick Cave’s Grinderman and Best Live Act was presented to singer/songwriter John Grant. The night’s Breakthrough Act prize was won by Rumer.Other winners included Gary Numan (Inspiration Award), folk-rocker Donovan (Maverick Award) and Primal Scream, whose Screamadelica won the Classic Album award.

U2 honour clemons in new jersey

U2 paid tribute to Bruce Springsteen’s late E Street Band member Clarence Clemons during their show in The Boss’ native New Jersey on Wednesday night (20Jul11).The Irish rockers took to the stage for a massive gig at the New Meadowlands Stadium, and they didn’t let the event pass without honouring the late saxophonist, who died last month (Jun11) at the age of 69.During the encore, frontman Bono displayed a sign bearing Clemons’ name and dedicated their track Moment of Surrender to the musician, according to the The Star-Ledger.At the end, the singer also slipped in some words from Springsteen’s track Jungleland, which features one of Clemons’ famous sax solos.
