The follow-up to Will Smith’s apocalyptic blockbuster, I Am Legend, is at last finding its way into development with the possibility of Smith reprising his role.

The sequel to the first film, which proved to be hit grossing $584 million worldwide, has entered production with Smith overseeing the whole affair.

The second instalment will be written by Arash Amel who has recently penned The Expatriate and the upcoming Grace Kelly biopic, Grace of Monaco.

I Am Legend saw Smith as the last surviving human in a world overrun by a plague of blood thirsty zombies.

It remains to be seen whether Smith will star or not, but for now, news of this sequel will be welcomed by fans who are eagre to see a follow up.

After a nearly four year hiatus, the prince of Bel-Air will be back with Men in Black 3 this summer, after which he will be appearing in M. Night Shyamalan’s sci-fi adventure After Earth.
