I've just brought a Peugeot 405,which I drove for a couple of days, covering about 250 miles. The engine ran fine until I stalled at traffic lights and since then it has not restarted. The AA didn’t have a clue and they towed me home. My local garage want to charge £50 plus per hour to look at it. What’s the best way to sort this out? Many thanks.
The mechanic says...
Unfortunately there is no easy answer to what is wrong with the car, as the fault could lie absolutely anywhere and to identify it, a series of tests needs to be carried out on the engine in terms of assessing its major functions/control systems, including compression, ignition system and fuel delivery. Having said that, the problem could be something as simple as a faulty engine control relay.
The most cost-effective course of action is to have a detailed check carried out on the engine, by a diagnostic specialist who will be able to use specialised electronic equipment to ‘interrogate’ the Peugeot. This should very quickly and precisely identify the cause of the problem (as opposed to a series of random checks), so that it can be rectified.
