Noisy wheel?

My car is making a noise that seems to be coming from the left hand side, near the front wheel. Originally I thought it was due to a stone in my tyre tread, but when I looked this was not the case. The noise occurs every time I drive, and this has only just started to happen.

There are several possibilities. There could be a stone or another small object trapped in a wheel trim, or the wheel bearings could be worn (although usually worn wheel bearings make a rumbling or moaning sound, rather than a rattle or clicking, like a stone in a tyre), or the nuts/bolts securing the wheel to the car may have worked loose (check at once!), or there could possibly be a problem with the brake disc. The screws/bolts securing the brake disc need to be assessed for security/tightness. It is also worth having the main nut securing the hub assembly/driveshaft checked in case this is loose.

If you are unable to discover anything amiss, have the car checked immediately by a competent operator, to ensure that it is safe to drive. The problem needs to be tracked down and rectified before driving further in the vehicle.
