Replacement for the hallowed E30, the 286 bhp E36 generation M3 was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1992. On sale in the UK from 1993, the E36 M3 wasn’t the focused track car that the previous version was, but was great at covering ground quickly with its flexible, reliable 3.0-litre engine and exploitable chassis.

Insist on a full-service history, ideally filled with BMW dealer stamps. Check the mileage carefully against the service history and condition, as some examples could have been clocked and avoid overstressed modified cars.
