Lotus Elite (1957)
The Lotus Elite made it debut at the 1957 Earl’s Court Motor Show. It’s most distinctive feature has to be the slippery body and monocoque construction. The result was a sports car that was light, stiff and had better crash protection than many rivals of the time. The light body also meant that it could achieve sportscar performance from the 75hp Coventry Climax all-aluminum straight-4 engine. When production ended in 1963, 1030 had been built.
