The final Type 57 was the 57C, which featured hydraulic brakes and a much stiffer chassis that allowed the engine to be rubber-mounted rather than bolted direct to the chassis, greatly increasing refinement. A supercharger boosted the standard 3.3-litre straight-eight from 135bhp to 160bhp at 5,000rpm, giving this substantial touring car a genuine 100mph top speed. This stunning, unique two-seat cabriolet 57C was commissioned by the French Government and bodied by Van Vooren as a wedding gift for the Shah of Iran.
