At 17 years and counting, and with seven million sold worldwide, the Punto is now in its third generation – and the new Evo chapter marks a freshen-up and facelift for what was the Grande Punto. Not to be confused with Mitsubishi’s offering to those who have trouble recognising the front of a baseball cap, this Evo is now available from £10,995, which buys you a 77bhp three-door petrol 1.4 eight-valve. At the other end of the finance table, £14,395 secures the keys to a five-door 1.3-litre 75bhp Multijet diesel. Between these, the dealer can tantalise you with a sixteen-valve 105 and 135bhp petrol “Multiair” models (more on that later) and another 1.3 Multijet engine from which is extracted a meatier 95bhp. The trim level choices are Active, Dynamic, GP, Eleganza and Sporting... apparently, we all like choice.
