Ford reckons few of us really need a seven-seat MPV, but Vauxhall’s Zafira salesmen say pah. The old Zaf sold in greater numbers every year. Seven years on, this is the new one. There was something reassuringly unpretentious (and surprisingly dynamic) about the old model. The new one looks unlikely to change that and – a rare thing this – the maker has even managed to slice the price by at least £350. You’ll also be able to spec auto gearing for the 1.9 CDTi model, which promises plenty of mid-range pull with 120bhp on tap.
