Veterinary charity PDSA recently issued a warning that fat pets will die. Figures have shown that dog obesity in the UK is rising at a dramatic rate and pet owners are in fact killing their beloved friends with their kindness.
Pet owners are putting their dogs at risk by not only feeding them 'treat's such as chocolate, ready meals and other fatty foods but also by not giving them enough daily exercise.
Chocolate can actually poisons dogs and other pets and can have fatal consequences.
Richard Hooker, PSDA chief veterinary surgeon adds: "Kindness can be misplaced and feeding any animal too many treats can have serious health consequences."

Controlled portions of pet food and regular exercise are vital to ensure a healthy life for all our pets. In a nutshell, exercise, nutrition and body awareness are key."
Problems such as heart disease, breathing difficulties, diabetes and arthritis are all linked to obesity. A good pet insurance policy should protect dog owners against the financial costs of veterinary treatment for weight related diseases.

When looking for a good pet insurance policy always compare policies closely. Cheaper policies often only cover ailments for 12 months and have limited cover, while others will provide unlimited cover for as long as the conditions last.
Pet insurance premiums will vary depending on the breed, age and location of the dog. Urban areas tend to attract higher premiums as not only is their greater risk of injury but vet fees are higher than in more rural locations.
