Dear Anne
I've successfully been taking Reductil since January. However I am now seriously worried that I may be pregnant. What effect will this have on the pregnancy? Will I have to have a termination? Sandra
Dear Sandra
Thank you for your letter. Hopefully you won't have to have a termination but it's vital that you stop taking Reductil immediately if you think you may be pregnant or you're trying for a baby. It's also vital that you see your GP straight away.
While Reductil is unlikely to have any directly damaging effect on the foetus it is designed to facilitate weight-loss. You don't want an underdeveloped baby, do you? Reductil can also have an effect on blood pressure and heart-rate. Given that carrying a baby and the surrounding amniotic fluid already raises blood-pressure, you could be letting yourself in for a potential risk to yourself as well as to the baby. Better to be safe than sorry!
I hope that your doctor will be able to arrange tests to set your mind at rest and that everything turns out well. Good luck!Back to Ask Anne
