Dear Anne
I'll be 15 next month. Today I walked to the shop and as I walked back and turned the corner, I saw these two girls talking excitedly, when one girl suddenly shrieked and jumped out of the road because a boy (he looks 16-17) on a black bike nearly went into her. As he drove past he stared hard at me but I shook it off and began shaking my head, laughing at the girl, as he drove off into the main road. But then I walked on. As I was about to go into my complex where I stay, I heard a motorbike. I looked back and saw that it was him. It looked like he wanted to say something but I pretended to ignore him. Then he turned in the road, stared at me again and sped off. It feels as if I was being followed. I feel kinda scared and excited. It's weird. I don't know what to do. If I see him again, should I talk to him? I'm gay if that might help. I just don't know what to do. Rick
Dear Rick
Yes, something unusual happened. A girl nearly got run over, partly through her own fault. The biker probably felt embarrassed and perhaps a bit of a dork since he'd nearly run someone over. He realised you were a witness who had noticed him. He may have felt scared you'd report him for dangerous driving. Or he may have been angry because he thought you were laughing at him. If he was following you, it probably wasn't with your welfare in mind. You could see his facial expression, which obviously I didn't, but in any case I wouldn't want much to do with someone who's so careless of other people and possibly hostile or possibly self-conscious, if not actually paranoid.
I'm sure some of that feeling of excitement was down to the natural adrenaline surge of witnessing an accident which could have been fatal. Whether or not you're gay, I'd be wary of having anything to do with this lad. So what do you do now? Carry on exactly as normal. If you see him again, try to avoid eye contact without being too obvious about it. And don't worry too much about it as with luck you'll never see him again. All the best.
