The least expensive way to create a big impact from a small change is colour.

Colourful walls
The most obvious answer is to paint walls in a striking, bold statement colour which will add impact and really make the room feel different. While feature walls still look amazing, the fashion is now painting all four walls in your new colour. Or if you have a fireplace, you could paint the two recesses either side, and then the opposite wall. If you have a dado rail, just paint below in a dark colour – greys are fashionable at the moment.
Wallpaper too looks good on all four walls but if you feel that is too much in your space that can work above a dado rail or on two of the opposite walls. If this all sounds too much, think about doing your skirting boards and door frames in a contrasting or bright colour, most people paint their skirting boards in white but they can look very effective in light greens or blues.
Cushions and accessories are another area that can add impact. If you’ve got grey sofas – think about red or coral colour cushions, lamps, picture frames, rugs. If you’ve got navy blue sofas think about lime green or fuschia pink accessories, go quite bold with contrasting colours – if you’re nervous just buy one and try it out for a couple of days before you commit.
