Creating storage space

Question:

I've got loads of stuff and not enough storage space - help!

Advice from Liz:

One of the best ways to spend money on a house is storage, you can never have too much. A good carpenter will be able to build storage in the smallest of areas which can really solve problems. Get him to use MDF to keep cost down and then paint it to match skirting boards or wall colours. In an old house use the recesses either side of a chimney breast, cupboards on the bottom part and shelving above. Books look good on a single high shelf sitting above a door frame running completely across one of the walls.

Under the stairs is a great place to store, get cupboards built flush to the outside line of stairs and at taller end put your cleaning items - vacuums, brooms, mops and at the narrower end you can store all your gorgeous paint colours!
