We want to decorate a bungalow we are buying - the lounge is small, the carpet is brown and beige - what colours do you suggest? Also, we want to paper the kitchen. Where can we buy nice kitchen wallpaper that is not too dear?

Firstly, the lounge - you are lucky that you do have a neutral colour for the carpet. I would probably go down the route of a pale duck egg or teal blue colour. You could wallpaper one wall in a striking style.
The paper above is from Laura Ashley at £25.00 a roll. B&Q have a good inexpensive collection, and you can then bring out those blues in the soft furnishings like the blinds, curtains and cushions.
In the kitchen - wallpaper can be trickier as it can get dirty. If you have one end for dining do that or if you do want it behind the units you could put up a clear PVC splash back which would protect the wallpaper and would be easy to clean. In a kitchen, I would go for a smaller pattern - Cath Kidston has a nice selection. This one above is £22 per roll.
