Colours to match victorian style houses

Question:

I have a small Victorian house and I am fitting the lounge with a black cast Iron surround & gas fire. What colour carpets/walls would you suggest?

Advice from Liz:

You could paint the recess either side of the chimney breast a darker shade of green and the rest of the room a lighter shade - this will help emphasise the cast iron fireplace without over shadowing it. Sisals and seagrass's work well with green and come in great neutral shades - Crucial Trading have a good selection. I really like the herring bone style above.
