The way in which you connect wirelessly with your Huawei EchoLife HG520b or HG520s router differs depending on when you ordered broadband or your replacement router.
I ordered broadband AFTER 09 November 2009
If you ordered broadband or a replacement router on or after 09 November 2009, you'll receive a pre-configured wireless router. This means that you don't need to follow the steps below to set up your router to connect wirelessly. All you need to do is:
- Locate the wireless network name and password that are printed on a sticker on your router.
- Follow the steps in our online video tutorial. Alternatively you can follow our step-by-step instructions at: How do I connect my computer to the wireless network?
I ordered broadband BEFORE 09 November 2009
If you ordered broadband or a replacement router before 09 November 2009, follow these steps to set up your Huawei EchoLife HG520b or HG520s router to connect wirelessly:
- Open a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, type http://192.168.1.1 into the Address bar and press Enter on your keyboard.
- Enter the username and password and click OK.
Note: The default username and password are both admin (this is case-sensitive).
- Select Basic from the menu on the left-hand side and then select Wireless LAN.
- Set Access Point to Enable.
- Select UNITED KINGDOM and Auto Channel Select from the Channel ID drop-down lists.
- Select 1 from the SSID drop-down list and enter a name for your wireless network into the SSID box.
Note: This is the name that your wireless router broadcasts, so enter something that is recognisable to you. It's important not to enter any personal details.
- Set Broadcast SSID to Yes and select WPA-PSK from the Authentication Type drop-down list.
- Under WPA-PSK, select TKIP from the Encryption drop-down list.
- Enter a password into the Pre-Shared Key box. The password should be at least eight characters long and can be a maximum of 63 characters. Take a note of this password, as you will need it to connect other wireless devices to your network.
- Select 802.11b+g from the 802.11b/g drop-down list.
- Under Wireless MAC Address Filter, set Active to Disable.
- Click Submit at the bottom of the screen.
Your EchoLife HG520b/s router is now ready to connect wirelessly. Ensure to make a note of the network name (SSID) and network key (WPA password), as you will need these later. Next you need to connect your computer to the network.
