It's life Jim, but not as we know it
Funny coincidence. Who'd have though the release date of the game would tie in with the latest AVP film. For the game, a spaceship carrying those nasty little facehugger critters has crash-landed on earth. You, as a soldier-Predator, must hunt them down and erase the cargo that has also crashed onto the planet. The trouble is, by the time you catch up with the universe's most loved bad guys, they've already spawned into the next level of nastiness and this has upset the army. Naturally. So you'll be hunting them down while getting the heat from the local boys in uniform. Armed with all the usual Predator weapons - the wrist blades and the awesome shoulder-mounted cannon - this initially is a great hunt and kill set-up. But several levels into the 15 mission single player and you quickly realise there's not much more depth to the title. The paths through the game are just too linear and most of the time the difficulty level is way too low. There's just not that much opposition to challenge a half-decent gamer with an itchy trigger finger. You'll quickly amass the 'honour points' and get the chance to upgrade your armory but you'll find yourself relying almost exclusively on the shoulder cannon as it does the job without you having to risk too much in close combat. With health and energy levels replenishing automatically and a camera angle with a mind of its own, the frustration creeps in. Overall, it feels like a wasted opportunity.
