Milestone reached for popular console plus Medal of Honor goes to Afghanistan and Lost Planet 2 screens
Nintendo claims the Wii is now the fastest ever selling home console in UK history as a result of the motion sensor-based console selling over six million units in less than three years since launch.
The landmark figure makes Wii the fastest selling video game console in UK history and the quickest ever to reach six million units sold. Wii was originally launched in the UK on 8 December 2006 and officially passed six million UK sales week ending 28 November 2009.
Commenting on the six million sales figure, David Yarnton, General Manager, Nintendo UK added: ""With its inclusive, family friendly and fun nature, we're very pleased Wii seems to have captured the imagination of over six million families across the UK and reached such a landmark sales figure in such a short space of time. We'll work even harder to ensure that the interest in Wii stretches over months and years, appealing to people of all ages and gaming experience."
There is still quite a way to go for Nintendo to beat the all-important record for most popular console of all time. That honour still goes to Sony who at last count managed to sell more than 10 million PS2s.
Meanwhile, EA has announced a bold new direction for its long running Medal of Honor games. For the first time in the franchise's 10-year history, Medal of Honor is leaving the WWII theatre and putting players in modern day war-torn Afghanistan. The developers promise that action will be based around real world events with the game being designed with the assistance of the members of US Special Operations that hope to depict the reality of modern warfare through a comprehensive single player and multiplayer campaign. A release is scheduled for 'sometime in 2010'.
We round off with some brand new screens of the highly anticipated sequel, Lost Planet 2 from Japanese developer Capcom. The title is the follow-up to the great looking and highly challenging third person shooter from 2008. A release is scheduled for Xbox 360 in early 2010.
