Konami launches new online initiative with prizes plus Forza Motorsport 3 download packs available and Left 4 Dead 2 screens
Konami announced today the first details for Metal Gear Online 24-hour Survival Challenge which is open to all registered MGO players to play over a 24-hour period. Players will be awarded Reward Points based on their team's winning streak and although the Japanese publisher recommends gamers do not play for an extensive duration of time, we think it may be the videogame version of the Le Mans 24-hour endurance test!
So for all gamers with stamina here's the details: The challenge will be held once a month for the next four months with the scheduled dates currently set for November 28, December 26, January 23, 2010, and February 27, 2010. Participants will need to log into the game during the 24-hour period and select to join a Survival lobby to participate in the challenge and the numbers will be capped at approximately 3,000 total players (exact number will be subject to server capacity).
And now to the prizes: Players With The Longest Survival Time Over the Course of the Day Will Be Awarded the Most Reward Points and Rare In-Game Items. All participants will receive a specific in-game Regain T-shirt while different levels of Reward Points will be given for each team's achievement. Players who participate in all the events and collect all four Regain T-Shirts will receive the special Regain Hat! Players do not need to play for the full 24-hour period to receive the prizes. To be eligible for the prizing players would need to log into the game and join a Survival game for the minimum of one round. The regularly scheduled Survival games for November 25, December 23, January 20, and February 24 will be cancelled to prepare for the special 24-hour Survival events. So time to start sleep depravation training!
Meanwhile Xbox 360 fans shouldn't feel left out in the cold with news that Microsoft is releasing a free downloadable pack for the awesome racer Forza Motorsport 3. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe Car Pack, now available for free on Xbox Live Marketplace, includes the Rhys Millen Racing Red Bull Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the HKS Genesis Coupe, and a one-of-a-kind Forza Motorsport 3 Genesis Coupe. For the true hardcore petrol heads the console manufacturer is releasing another pack in December that costs 400 Microsoft Points. The Hot Holidays Car Pack, releasing Dec. 8 will feature some of the world's most anticipated super cars and purpose-built race cars of 2010, including the recently unveiled Ferrari 458 Italia. Finally we round off with some brand new screens of the hotly anticipated zombie shooter Left 4 Dead 2. Adding new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original, featuring more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, new Survival maps, and the new competitive game mode.
