Sony's new handheld hits the high street with attractive incentives for early adopters plus Super Street Fighter IV screens
Sony has launched the PSPgo in Europe with the sexy new disc-less handheld retailing for a not inconsiderable 225 (GBP). For only 25 (GBP) more and a slim line PS3 could be yours. But for now at least we shouldn't be too critical of what is a remarkable piece of next-gen kit.
Slick and stylish with a neat new sliding screen and a trimmed-down, pocket-sized chassis, PSPgo still finds room to pack in some 16GB of built-in memory. It 's mission statement is to put the user in control - with the space to download and store a wide range of entertainment from games to videos and photos.
To entice existing PSP owners and curious gamers, Sony has launched a number of special offers and initiatives including for ten days only, a copy of PSP Gran Turismo Edition with every new PSPgo - absolutely free! Gran Turismo on PSP offers the keys to more than 800 beautifully rendered cars, and the best tracks to race them on. All new players need to do is register their new PSPgo on PlayStation Network and follow the simple instructions. But beware, the offer only runs until October 10.
The second incentive introduces a new type of PSP game. The Minis are a new category of bite-sized entertainment that offers easy access into the world of PSP digital downloads. The minis include a wide range of titles, from arcade racers to beat-em'ups and puzzle titles. Available exclusively from PlayStation Store, minis will have a 100MB size limit, with initial releases priced between 2.99 and 4.99 (GBP).
Finally for any existing PSP owners looking to upgrade, Sony would like to offer you your choice of three free games fwhen you trade in your old handheld from an all star list of sixteen titles including Killzone: Liberation, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3, WipEout Pure, echochrome Buzz!: Brain Bender, LocoRoco and Patapon. Not exactly the world's freshest games, but not bad either!
Finally we round off with some brand new screens from Super Street Fighter IV forthcoming on Xbox 360 and PS3 courtesy of Capcom. The latest instalment in one of the world's best ever beat-em'ups is due for release in Spring 2010 - so for now at least we'll have to console ourselves with these exclusive new screens.
