PlayStation Network exclusive now available for download plus total number of UK console sales revealed and Edge of Twilight PC screens
ZEN Studios, a videogame developer known for its arcade and action games, has announced that its Marvel Comics-inspired first-person shooter The Punisher: No Mercy is available now in North America and Europe exclusively on PlayStation Network.
The Punisher: No Mercy delivers a fast-paced multiplayer experience loaded with original and comic-inspired in-game taunts, as well as access to a wide array of weaponry, intense combat and deafening destruction. Players can fight alongside or take on an eclectic mix of Punisher allies and villains in a series of arena-style multiplayer matches that feature solo and team-based missions for up to eight players. Battle arenas span from shipyards rife with contraband to the "birthplace" of Jigsaw, the Punisher's archenemy.
In addition to the online gameplay, No Mercy also boasts a single-player campaign where players can unleash their vengeance on hordes of villains while unfolding an original storyline that's brought to life with exclusive artwork from acclaimed Marvel artist Mike Deodato.
Meanwhile, figures have been released detailing the number of consoles sold in the UK to date - and the numbers are impressive. This generation of consoles has sold 24 million units in the UK - up a staggering 8.4 million in the last 12 months.
According to GfK-ChartTrack data for sales up to June 27th, 2009, DS has the biggest installed base with 9.1 million, up 2.7 million from a year before. In addition, 300,000 DSi consoles have been sold since launch. Wii follows on 5.4 million - up 2.3 million on its installed base in June 2008. Meanwhile, Xbox 360 enjoys a 3.9 million installed base - up 1.7 million in the last 12 months, whilst PS3 sits on 2.2 million - up 900,000 units from June last year.
Finally, we round off with some brand new screens of Edge of Twilight. The third person action adventure game is in development for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms. Gameplay is split between combat, puzzle-solving and exploration. These elements will in turn be split between the two parallel planes of reality that only the player maytraverse; the spiritually influenced, Lithern night realm, and the industrial, Athern dominated, day realm. A release is due later in the summer.
