Capcom's survival horror classic takes the top spot plus Championship Manager 2009 faces delays and MGS Online expansion screens
Our favourite game of 2009, Resident Evil 5, has stormed straight to the top of the all-format top 40 in the first week of release - breaking a few records along the way. The edge of seat survival horror masterpiece becomes the fastest selling title in the Resident Evil franchise and also Capcom's biggest ever week one release in the UK - beating the previous mighty endeavours of Street Fighter IV.
The numbers are impressive. In total, Resident Evil 5 accounted for just over 27 per cent of all console game sales this week, and sold more copies in the shops than the rest of the remaining Top 10 entrants altogether! Be sure to check out our Resident Evil 5 review in the Tiscali review pages, it really is a cracking game.
But from celebrating great games to becoming frustrated with delays of titles that have a great heritage. We've just learnt that the long awaited Championship Manager 2009 title is stuck on the backburner and now won't see the light of day until later in the year.
Eidos, the veteran publisher behind the series has decided to reschedule the original April launch date in order to give the game more polish. The title is now not expected to hit the street before June 30. "Eidos has a total commitment to producing the highest quality games and we believe by moving the release date of Championship Manager, we will give the product the additional time needed to deliver a more polished and highly competitive game within the genre," the publisher's CEO Phil Rogers said in a statement.
Although this move will unlikely be a bombshell to the legion of Champ Man fans, Rogers was adamant the delay will result in a better game. "We will not compromise on quality and we are confident that this decision is right for consumers and will benefit the continued popularity of this franchise," he added.
Finally we round off with a brand new selection of screenshots from the forthcoming SCENE Expansion pack for Metal Gear Solid Online. The latest Metal Gear Online expansion pack for the PS3 squad-based, tactical shooter will be available on the PlayStation Network from today.
