Guide to Security

Guide to security:

The security in Netropolis is really very simple. There are 3 forms of external security - security guards, guard dogs and security cameras, and two forms of internal security - sprinklers and fire extinguishers. The cost of each of these really gives a clue as to the effitiveness. As such, as the security cameras, which are the cheapest form of external security, are generally very poor, and tend to stop very few tricks. However, it may be that they could be advised if you do not think you will be bombed, as their low rates per month keep your profits quite high. However, if you take my advice, don't go near cameras with a barge pole - they are just not worth the effort. I could almost guarantee that if someone came to bomb you and you had cameras they would actually laugh out loud!

Dogs however, I like. They are more expensive than cameras and are effective at stopping the trick so the bomber gets caught by the police, and faces a very heavy fine. However, it MUST be remembered that during a police strike neither the dogs nor the cameras work, as they both rely on the police. The guards will work at all times. They cost a fortune to get and to keep, but if you think you're going to get bombed on strike day, they can be worth it. The fines are not so high as the police fines, but if you're caught several times (as you easily may) it very quickly adds up.

My advice is to not use external security unless you get bombed often, or are expecting to be bombed soon. If you do get bombed often, or are expecting to be bombed, then I would secure all properties with guard dogs. Just before strike day change all the security to guards, and then back again the day after. If you have a lot of land then it may just be simplier to keep guards on all the time - to save time, effort and money.

Internal security is simplier yet more confusing! The bottom line is that sprinklers are better than fire extinguishers. If a fire spreads onto your property and you do not have sprinklers, then the condition of that building immediately goes down to 80%. It also slowly burns itself to a crisp as well. However, if you have sprinklers, and the fire would normal spread onto that building, then the building takes 5% damage, but does not catch fire.

Sprinklers are not 100% effect though, and if the fire is persistant it will spread onto the building eventually, sprinklers or not. Fire strikes in a location seem to increase the ability of a fire to spread. To be perfectly honest, I have not played enough with fire extinguishers to comment accurately here. All I can say is that no one really uses them - so that must say something about their efficiency!

General security for both internal and external depends on the location. When you view cities (via the HQ), will will see a reading for the fire and police efficiency for any particular loction. The options are low, medium and high - and you can see it more specifically on the bar readings at each location as well. If the fire/police effeciency is low/low then expect fires to spread more often, and not to get caught very much when bombing. If you see high/high then expect fires to spread rarely, and also to get caught a lot more often when bombing.
