How to Build

Guide to Building:

In the game of Netro, I can think of a few different types of building one might do. This part of the guide is my attempt to break down each area of building and explain why I feel it's the best for the situation. During any example of how to build shown I will use the following pattern to graphicly show. If at anytime there is building abbreviation used that you dont recongnize please consult the buildings guide

C O L U M N
Evens / Odds / Even
R Evens 0,0 / 0,1 / 0,0
O Odds 1,0 / 1,1 / 1,0
W Even 2,0 / 2,1 / 2,0

A real pattern may be described in words by saying that all even rows will be made of Hotdog Stands and all odds will be made of campsites. The picture would look like: stand/stand camp/camp ***IMPORTANT NOTE. I am not suggesting to use this pattern in building*** stand/stand

This simple guide to building will cover the situations for building. 1. Making the Most of your HSS (High Street Stores) - (HSS+)
2. Blocked land with out Licenses
3. Unblocked/General building ideas for non-Licenses
4. Making the Most of your Lics

When I started to test for a better building pattern it was thought there was no better, so remember that there could always be a better answer out there still.

1. Making the Most of your HSS
Placing a building next to one of the same type will always decrease the value of both. Think about going to a mall and finding two CD stores next to one another, I doubt you would disagree that they would draw money away from one another. Based on this common bussiness factor you can see that building a HSS next to itself would not be benifical to either building. However, by alternating the TYPE of HSS you are able to make sure that no single type of HSS touches one of its own kind(with a certain degree of being successful).

This discovery lead to a pattern termed as HSS+ (show below in basic form) which will be what I consider the starting point of any builders pattern.

Elec/Fash/Elec
Food/Food/Food
Elec/Fash/Elec

This Building pattern makes the most sence seeing there are HSS has 3 types to build with. By making the Even rows into Elec/Fash a builder can have the least of one building type touching itself. One might ask "why allow food to touch itself?" This question is a matter of making the most of your HSS by Elec and Fash not hurting themselves. So you have 2 types making a higher profit than if all three types touched one of the same kind.

2. Blocked land without Lics (HSS++)
The key to making the most of your block is knowing which buildings work best with others and how they affect profits. As I have stated before placing a building next to one of its type will decrease the profits of both. However there are times that doing this will benefit you in the profits. Take for example a Reno placed on a corner. If you put 3 HSS (in proper order) around it, the Reno will continue to make Max profit while it drops the profits of all 3 HSS.

EXAMPLE: Road/Road/Road/Road
Road/Reno/HSS
Road/HSS /HSS
Road

If you place a manor next to it the Reno will still be maxed, the 2 remaining HSS will still be lower than normal and the Manor will have increased over what the previous HSS had done.

Road/Road/Road/Road
Road/Reno/Manor
Road/HSS /HSS
Road

Now to further increase the profits over he whole area we replace the roadside HSS with another Reno. This decreases the profits for both the Renos and the remaining HSS, but if placed correctly will still make more due to the Reno%u2019s high income possibilities.

Road/Road/Road/Road
Road/Reno/Manor
Road/Reno /HSS
Road

I find that every block can be worked out to minimise the amount of HSS you have on the roads. I begin by doing the previous pattern to each corner of the block. Since we now know that the manor is not effected by the Reno as much as the HSS and knowing that the Manor makes more, we can plan out a pattern for the rest of the road space as well. It is ideal to have as many Reno placed as possible and unless it's on a corner you can put a Manor in between them. For example:

Road/Road/Road/Road/Road/Road/Road
Road/Reno/Manor/Reno/Manor/Reno/Road
Road/Reno/ / / /Reno/Road
Road/Manor/ / / /Manor/Road
Road/Reno/ / / /Reno/Road

As you may notice the previous example has 9 plots empty in the middle. Knowing what to place in this pattern becomes very simple when you remember how each building effects others. Considering we already have renos and manors lining the streets we don't want to place anymore on the next row in. So we fill in using the proper HSS building pattern

Road/Road/Road/Road/Road/Road/Road
Road/Reno/Manor/Reno/Manor/Reno/Road
Road/Reno/Elec/Food/Elec/Reno/Road
Road/Manor/Fash/ /Fash/Manor/Road
Road/Reno/Elec / /Elec/Reno/Road

Looking back at the section on how to build HSS we know that putting any type of HSS next to itself is bad for profits and since we know that Reno are also bad for HSS profits, we are forced to go with the least of all evils, the Manor. And since the only Food HSS on the map, so far, is above the Manor we can use food to finish the column.

Road/Road/Road/Road/Road/Road/Road
Road/Reno/Manor/Reno/Manor/Reno/Road
Road/Reno/Elec/Food/Elec/Reno/Road
Road/Manor/Fash/Manor/Fash/Manor/Road
Road/Reno/Elec /Food/Elec/Reno/Road

If this block was a 4 by 4 with the bottom being the edge of the map, we would be done. But remember this could just be the top of the block it may end up being a bigger block where you have to continue the pattern until you have no more room. This is not a definate pattern that you can build like the HSS+. (As I call this doubling of reno the HSS++, i will refer to it as that hence forth.) A thing to remember is that this pattern can be adapted to any type of block by doubling reno and placing manor in the middle of the next reno. It will not always be so simple as putting the reno in the same patter i have. Play with differnt orders to find what you feel works best in each situation.

3. Unblocked/General building ideas for non-Licenses
If your land isn'tt all in one area (normally in "owned" or poorly kept maps) you will find it's hard to maximize your profits, but there are some rules you can follow no matter what level of map you currently using.

The Reno is a company's best friend when looking for pure profits. Placing it in a corner of 2 roads will earn its max income. While placing it away from roads isn't the best for profits of the surrounding buildings, it will make more than having a High Street Store or Manor. If one only cares about their profit (and the area is free of other Renos) it will bring down the profits of all 8 surrounding buildings while producing more than 2k income. However the Reno really shines when its on any sort of road or lane.

The next best building to use is the Manor, if no other manors are present. Its a simple fact that its profit causes no harm to any of the other "20k buildings." This makes it a perfect money making building and allowing the companies around you to keep up their own profits.

The final answer to making the most profit you can, is look if your plot is on a road or in the middle of a block. If you are unable to place a Reno or Manor you should place an HSS according to the HSS+ rules. However in the case that you on a road you can place a Motel instead of placing a HSS that doubles with one of its own type.

4. Making the Most of your Lics
Lics have much more possible detail to how to build that showing patterns would take hours to write (and i doubt anyone wants to read it all either :P) I will give a few general points about each of the profit lics and then point you to building facts for more hints and how use the support lics.

Hotels- Water is this buildings best friend. Pools, lakes, and rivers help to increase profits. If you can place it on a prop with only road around it, that will max out its profit as well.

Nightclub- to make max profit for this purple pyramid you must surround it by 8 pubs.

Cinema- to make max profits you surround it with 8 MSCP. A common practice to making a moderate profit on more than just one cine is to form the following pattern:

cine/cyber/cine
MSCP/MSCP/MSCP
cine/cyber/cine

Niteclub and Cine- by taking the previous idea of how to make the most of your profits using the smallest space you can replace the cyber with clubs for an nice increase to club and minimal decrease to the cine. This change is a judgment call if you would have the room to build the clubs else where to still get good profits.

Thanks greatly to Ryan Vanderleest for doing this section for me.
