Default Customer service free phone number

Can anyone advise me what the free phone number is to TalTalk customer service.
Like hundreds of other loyal customers I have been upgraded resulting in a drop of download speed to 1.6Mbs.
Have posted a request on other forum but do not intend spending a lot of time and money on charges to India.

I notice BT are rolling out their fast infinity programme in lots of areas including mine.
I wonder if anyone has experience of the BT service.

Regards to all
Terry

TalkTalk free number is 08704441820,

BUT as far as I'm aware it's only free if you are an original TalkTalk customer (with TT landline)
& not a customer who's been transferred from Tiscali.

Default Thanks for reply

I bet you are right about paying for calls.
Maybe I have to call them and ask if I am being charged.
Last time I called I could barely understand a word being said and the so called engineer said I could not get any faster speed.
Caroline adjusted it so I could get up to 2.6Mbs.
Like hundreds of other dissatisfied customers it has all gone to pot since being upgraded for being a loyal customer.
Regards

First of all apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but am at wits end here trying to get help from Talk Talk.

Basically, went "live" with TalkTalk on the 31st. Before that phone worked, and internet wasnt great (about 2-3Mbps) but usable.

Live date comes and phone line dies. Internet drops to 0.3Mbps.
I phone up Customer Service and am told that everything will be fine tomorrow (1st Feb) for phone and on the 2nd for the interent. My £5 credit runs out on my mobile, so I leave it at that and take the lad at his word.

Next day comes, still a dead phone line, still between 0.3-.05Mbps online. The day after (2nd - today) comes. Phone line still dead, internet still between 0.3-0.5Mbps.

So, put another fiver on the mobile and phone the tech line. Eventually get through and some chap in India reads through a script. Any question that deviates him from his script is ignored. He takes me through his scripted "advice". Then he tests the line. No fault recognised. Which seems odd since nothing is working as it should, but whatever. We get up to me having to take a screwdriver to the phone master socket and removing the front plate when my £5 credit runs out. Either way no matter how or where the phone is plugged in, no dial tone, just dead air.

Try the "technical help line" again this evening, this time put a tenner in credit on the phone. Different chap in India, word for word same script with no deviations acknowledged, including me explaining I've already been through it. Has me hold again while the line is tested. Again (third time in all). "No fault on the line".
So, he can arrange for an engineer to be sent out but it will cost £50.

Why? "Because there is no fault on the line so the problem is in your home".

Incredible. Ask to be transferred to customer service. Customer service is closed. But here is a direct number - 08704441820. Oh yes, the same exactly same number I used to phone him. The same number that keeps me on hold eating my phone credit.

Worst customer service and worst phone and internet service provider I have had the misfortune to trust my money with in the 15 years I've been online.

So, after all of that, Im nearly 20 quid down on mobile calls, and still have no landline or usable broadband. And no idea what I am supposed to do next.

How do I cancel this service? Talk Talk have clearly not met their terms of contract, they are not providing ANY phone service or anything approaching the broadband speed I was told would be available ("The minimum speed your line will support is 2Mbps" So the minimum they quoted is four times the maximum we have!)

We need internet at this address for work and for tv, as we do not have an outside aerial (listed building). My wife cannot even speak to her mother in China without the landline.

We are kind of stuck now and just want out of this shambles. Should have stayed with SKY, for all their sins, they at least have decent customer service (who I can understand when they speak and can understand what I am saying).

Any help or advice much appreciated.

Sounds like a rock and a hard place There is no technical support on this forum now but there is HERE. You may need to register first and the earliest anyone will even look at your issue is Monday butr at least they will take your problem on board. The phone support is a very sick joke indeed.

DONT fall for this>Why? "Because there is no fault on the line so the problem is in your home".
...........................
if open-reach<bt> come out they will try and bill you for it...best option is get a family member to report phone fault.what router have you got..have you tried re-booting it.<un-plug-it>for five minutes...then power it up.

You pay whoever for the line-rental of your land-line....you should contact them to test it..and not call anybody else..the transfer from one isp to another has always been a bone of contention..

Thank you Earthling and Death The End for your replies.

Earthling, thanks for the link, will have a try there later and see what response I can get.

Death The End, landline rental is with Talk Talk as well as calls and internet, so they are responsible for it all now. Getting them to accept that responsibility isnt so straightforward.
Have tried resetting the router, using different micro-filters etc, different cables, etc

The Mrs is going to borrow an old cabled phone from work on Monday, as Talk Talk keep insisting we need to try another phone (even though our phone was working fine on the 30th) and I will phone them again from a different landline so they dont bleed another 20 quid in mobile charges.

Initially I had tried to contact them through their email reporting system, but all I got back was a standard email giving the same list of "its your fault for being stupid" solution and... the phone number to call.

They really are a disgrace on customer service. Shockingly so.

Thanks again for the replies.

It may help you to know that you can call TalkTalk Customer support on 0203 441 5550.

see http://www.talktalkmembers.com/forum...ad.php?t=83398

I have found the support team in that forum to helpful, although the registration process and security checks make it a bit of a struggle at first.

Thank you, jbuchanangb.

I did use the "standard rate" 0203 441 5550 number rather than the 0807 number (both take you to the same menu) and my mobile credit was eaten through at an alarming rate (£5 credit used up and left cut off in minutes on my first two attempts and using £10 credit on my third attempt).

What I find really galling is that unlike previous suppliers, at no point was a call back offered. When I explained I was running out of credit and may be cut of and asked if they could call back, was told no on all three occasions.

I'm sorry reiver

It seem PAYG is unusual in that you get charged MORE to call a geographical number (01, 02 or 03) that to an 0870 number. TalkTalk offered the 020 number to help mobile users with contracts and inclusive minutes. 0870 numbers are not included in inclusive tariffs.

I referred to the Vodafone PAYG tariff
http://www.vodafone.co.uk/shop/pay-a...rges/index.htm

That really shocks me. Notice that Vodafone PAYG calls to 0800 numbers are also chargeable.

Hope you get things sorted out.
