Jack the Ripper suspects

Jack the Ripper suspects

Jack the Ripper suspects
Over many years, the identity of Jack the Ripper has remained a mystery. However, there were only four main suspects that were genuinely nominated by contemporary police officers.

1) Aaron Kominski: Born in Poland in 1865, Kominski was transferred to a mental hospital in 1891. He was claimed to have been spotted near the nurder scene at Mitre Square by a City PC who was not prepared to offer testimony against a fellow Jew.

2) Montague John Drewitt: Born in Dorest in 1857, Drewitt went on to receive a BA and was then admitted to the Bar in 1985. Drewitt was found drowned in the Thames after the fifth murder. Along with "private information" this lead some to believe the was the Ripper.

3) Michael Ostrog: There is little evidence to suggest that Ostrog was the murderer. Aged around 55 at the time of the murders, Ostrog had a reputation as a fraudster and thief.

4) Dr Francis J. Tumblety: Posing as a Doctor, the uneducated Tumblety was connected to the death of some of his patients, although they may not have been deliberate. Arrested for homosexual indecency, Tumblety fled to France whilst waiting trial. It was said that he would have been released in time to murder Mary Jane Kelly.
