Sir Paul has the X factor

Sir Paul has the X factor

13/12/2009 23:35

The X Factor finale drew to a close as the 12 contestants joined Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney on stage for a rendition of the group's classic Drive My Car.

After the surprise performance, Macca shook hands with the final two acts, Olly Murs and Joe McElderry, before sitting at a multi-coloured piano and telling the audience: "This is exciting."

He then broke into Live And Let Die and earned a rousing applause from the judges and audience members.

Afterwards, Sir Paul, who has previously been quoted as saying reality shows such as The X Factor are like "a traffic accident", was asked by Dermot O'Leary what he thought of Joe and Olly.

But he deadpanned: "I think they're both good - one of them is going to win."

Simon was also in a humorous mood, joking: "It doesn't get better than that. I'd like to say Paul, on behalf of all of us, you're through to the next round."

And as the voting lines closed, celebrities were busy offering their views on Twitter.

Fearne Cotton said: "Sorry but they should not have let the x factor finalists on the stage with sir paul. I just wanna see him do his thing. Legd!"

Mat Horne, who earlier said he had voted five times for Olly, quipped: "Damn I was hoping he'd do The Frog Chorus. Bom bom bom baiyah" in reference to Sir Paul's children's classic.

And Phillip Schofield predicted: "Bottle of red, all on my own, a little tear watching the vt's!!! Good luck Joe, tried to vote and can't get through so I think it's yours."
