Strictly's reinforced costumes

Strictly's reinforced costumes

20/12/2010 08:42

Strictly Come Dancing stars have been involved in a stitch-up for the final - to ensure the girls do not fall out of their costumes during vigorous routines.

The show's costume department have taken extra measures to make sure the flimsy frocks can take the strain and avoid leaving contestants red-faced.

Kara Tointon, Matt Baker and Pamela Stephenson, plus their partners, are putting final touches to their dances as the series climaxes on Saturday.

All three couples have been working on athletic routines to stand out on the night, some involving back-flips.

But it has led to concerns that there may be eye-popping results as the female dancers dart around.

A show source said: "The costume department has had to reinforce the girls' outfits to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions as the routines are so ambitious and acrobatic."

However the energetic routines are already taking their toll. Aliona Vilani hurt her back while attempting to do a back-flip for the "show dance".

And her partner Matt has been disappointed to learn they are not the only duo trying out some acrobatics.

Ex-gymnast Kara is also having a go at a back-flip. She said: "We are pushing ourselves to the absolute limit in our show dance and it's like climbing Everest.

Kara, who will dance to Queen's Don't Stop Me Now, added: "It is certainly frantic and manic and crazy, and I will be absolutely shattered at the end of it.

Pamela and partner James Jordan are performing to Time Of Our Life, which featured in the film Dirty Dancing.

She said: "In our show dance, in James' sadistic way, he is making me do the floor-spin again.

"I think the tendency is to show the kitchen sink at the show dance but we aren't going to do this. Our show dance is going to be more about emotion.

"It's the most difficult dance I have done on Strictly."

Matt will dance to The Bodyrockers hit I Like The Way You Move. He said he has turned the tables on his partner by teaching her the back-flip.

"I've taught her the technique and she just needs to do it. I'm giving her a taste of her own medicine really."
