Overall area: 450,000 sq m

Qingdao is located on the southern coastline of the Shandong Peninsula, in east China's Shandong Province. The city, whose population numbers over seven million, is one of China's most important ports.

As well as being a sea transit hub for the Eurasia and Pacific regions, Qingdao is also an important manufacturing centre.

The Qingdao International Sailing Centre is located on the site of an old shipyard. It covers a total area of 45 hectares (450,000 sq.m.), two thirds of which will be used for the competitions.

The Centre comprises a land area, a harbour and an off-shore section.

The land area provides the administration and competition management centre, the athletes' centre, the press centre and the logistic and functional centre.

Meanwhile, the harbour and off-shore parts comprise the major and secondary breakwater, an embankment, a quay featuring the Olympic Memorial Wall, and the shore wall.

The quay, the secondary breakwater, and the embankment enclose an area of 15.5 hectares (155,000 sq.m.) while the major breakwater, together with the embankment, will occupy 7.5 hectares (75,000 sq.m.).
