I will no longer entertain cars that rely on timing belts. Present car which is wonderful is a Rover 800Di. OK the drive-by-wire is a bit scary as is the invincible immobiliser. General running around on twisty hilly Cornish lanes and 70mph motorway work on proper roads up-country gives over 40mpg. The car has enough room to carry "local pickup only" items bought on eBay and enough length to sleep in the back on those 800 mile round trip pickup weekends. It will tow trailers with ease and at the MOT it passes the smoke test FIRST TIME EVERY TIME (exhaust is colourless and the drive-by-wire will not allow black smoke) Would like to run these for evermore and as the platform is Honda, getting spares is still OK. All this talk about global warming needs to be taken with a large grain of salt as when I see (and hear) fighter jets exercising (6 gallons a second?) I see red.

I just bought a toyota prius... It does make sense I just halved my petrol consumption at a stroke... longer runs are even better... I'm laughing all the way to the pump... It drives better than I thought on a long run and will pull away surprisingly fast and is big enough for 5 if one is a child. I'm 6ft1in and there is ample room still... more than my other car.

LES POOLE says:
We are told by our so called government to SAVE THE PLANET. By turning off unecessary electrical items, install energy efficient light bulbs, etc. But, when you travel to London at night time, London is lit up like a Christmas Tree, many offices ablaze with light with no apparent workforce inside, closed shops flood lit.I am beginning to think WHO IS KIDDING WHO.

Peter Lewis says:
Its nice to see the C1 diesel did well.
Ive owned a Caldera Black Metalic C1 diesel from June last year and have bettered 84mpg over a long journey from North Wales to Co Durham recently using the M6 most of theway.

It would have been nice to know what mileage the C1 had before its marathon attempt.Mine has just past 12,000miles and everything in the report i can say is true.

Why then does vertually every motoring journalist slate this magnificent HDi engine.I know diesel is more expensive to buy than petrol but many drivers me included prefer the way diesels perform aswell as their legendary relibility over often complicated petrol engines.

The C1 diesel now has air conditioning as standard, mine didnot include air conditioning which im pleased about because when you have to use it it drinks fuel in the process which goes against the reason of C1 ownership.

I would recommend anyone to buy a C1 diesel or petrol as it is a very well screwed together citycar that is very comfortable to drive over very long distances.

My journey from Llandudno to Shildon in Co Durham including a bit of sightseeing totalled nearly 450miles and i got out of the car feeling quite relaxed.

On the outward journey from Llandudno to Barnard Castle which is 185.6 miles i used just over 8 litres of fuel having brimmed the tank from the begining of my journey.

You see 84mpg as achieved in this Fuel Marathon is nothing really special.Taking the cars mileage into consideration 84mpg can be achieved by any carefull owner as long as you keep the speed around 50-55mph.

A Yaris driven by Andrew Andersz and Gary Luton achieved the highest overall fuel economy in the 2008 ALD Fleet World MPG Marathon. Seeing off stiff competition and winning Toyota top spot for the third year running, the Yaris 1.4 D-4D achieved 84.66 mpg, the highest figure attained out of all the 39 vehicles which took part in the 400-mile challenge last week.

According to many top scientists ,there is no global warming. We are just going through a normal cycle of warming and cooling.

Well, I'm none the wiser
- When did the race take place
- Who won
- How were the other car's placed
- What were the actual MPGs obtained by entrants

Citroen may be sponsoring the page but this is just bad journalism
