THE RAKES
Dubbed 'the post-punk Monkees' by the NME, London four-piece The Rakes may monkey around but they couldn't be any more serious when it comes to their music. The
band (Alan Donohoe, vocals, guitarist Matthew Swinnerton, bassist Jamie
Hornsmith and drummer Lasse Petersen), document the rigours of urban London.
Their debut album, Caputre/Release, released in 2005, was a great pop record
which served as an autopsy of low-waged youth in binge-drink Britain. Debut single 22 Grand Job was an insightful depiction of slave wage desperation. Like the soy sauce and beer stained shirt you're still wearing from the night before,
the band document those shameful Saturday night indiscretions that you can barely
remember on Sunday morning. Anyone fancy a pint?
