Bombastic, apocalyptic metal, operatic overtures and startling sci-fi themes - you could never accuse Muse of doing anything by halves. Since their inception in 2001 the band have blazed a trail with their brand of unashamedly extravagant renaissance prog rock. The trio of Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme and drummer Dominic Howard formed the band while still at school in Teignmouth, Devon in 1997. Debut album Showbiz was released in 1999. The band ignored early accusations of Radiohead copyists and forged on to 2001 album Origin Of Symmetry which was more experimental. The band teamed up with US producer Rich Costey for their breakthrough 2004 album, Absolution, achieving their intention of breaking the US. Their new album, the suitably sci-fi themed Black Holes & Revelations continues their conspiracy obsessed, sci-fi leanings and utterly compelling brand of batty-but-brilliant rock.
