The Polar Race 2009 begins today, a biennial endurance event to the magnetic North Pole described as 'probably the world's toughest race'. Founded in 2003 by British adventurers David Hempleman-Adams and Jock Wishart, it recreates the 'Ultimate Challenge' expedition of 1996 from Resolute Bay in former North West Territories of Canada, now known as Nunavut, and covering 350 miles in around 30 days.
