Under control or out of control?

Flu pandemic
The number of people consulting their GP because they think they have swine flu has almost doubled in one week.

The Department of Health said an estimated 100,000 people in England sought help in the past week, up from 55,000 the previous week.

There are now 840 people in hospital with the virus, of which 63 are in intensive care.

Most people with the virus in hospital are aged 16 to 64, with 435 cases, followed by the under-fives, with 169 cases.

Is swine flu under control or out of control? Have you been affected by swine flu? What are your concerns? Are you worried about catching swine flu or is it all being blown out of proportion by the media?

Are you worried about swine flu?
Yes, I am really worried that I will catch it.
Yes, but I think it's less serious than it actually is.
No, I think it has all been blown out of proportion.

I have tried not to blindly panic about swine flu but it's hard not to! My son is two and a half and has a history of chronic lung disease. I am so scared for him that he might get swine flu. I am definitely going to get him vaccinated. I can't afford not to! I wish it would just all go away cos I am sick of constantly worrying about it.

the hype around swine flu is ridiculous it is no more serious than the annual flu problems. The set up to manage any outbreak is over the top, so many centres and points of pick up and yet we have not seen a real problem. We get told that it will happen in winter, well every winter we have flu bugs and problems, it is very unlikely to be worse than that, but just in case. the back up is in place already and the country is to be immunised...Am I worried, I don't have a care, it will be over before we know it was around us.

Regarding Swine Flu- I think a lot of it was hyped up by the press and the government. It really must be diagnosed by a doctor.
I also think that many people were diagnosed over the telephone, who never really had it.
There were many virus's going around the schools the later half of July, and i think they were said to be swine flu.
The reason why there are less cases, is that the children have been off school this month. Lets see what happens when they return to school. Also I feel that people are taking time off work, by saying they are feeling unwell.
When they really could have been working.
Please stop and think before spouting on about more Swine Flu yet.

I am not worried about swine flu. I would not take tamiflu or have the jab if it was offered. I had real flu 15 years ago and was told nothing would help as it was a virus. How come now there are tablets for swine flu and a jab when we are always told there are no antibiotics that will help viruses. I am 66 years old. It took me six weeks to fully recover from flu I lost a stone in weight but I would still not take tamiflu or have the jab, they have been developed far too quickly and the side affects far outweight the disease itself.

I am getting fed up with conflicting advice, now its not good to give tamiflu to children and can cause more harm than good.
I have returned from holiday by many means of transport mixing with alot of poeple. I felt poorly on hols and since my return but I am blaming the air-conditioning which was everywhere I went!! I don't have a fever which is the biggest sign of most flu's but have double checked symptoms with the online service to make sure.
Flu can be draining in its self so fluid, paracetamol, small healthy snacks little and often and plenty of rest! good personal hygeine & that of the home seems like the best advice.

It's just another flu. Thousands die every year from flu. Swine flu is no different. In the UK we have good diet, good health care. Think what this could do in Africa. Don't believe that it is as bad as the media would have us think.
DON'T LIVE IN A STATE OF FEAR, JUST LIVE!

Porky so the goverment are responsible for the swine flu now are they. I cannot see what else they could have done. It would appear that this island is inhabited by idiots, if people send their children to school when they are unwell its hardly suprising that it spreads. Also some people only need to get a cold and they think that the grime reaper is on the door step. No government in the world could respond perfectly to this situation. There are just not enough doctors to provide the one to one care that some people will expect. If doctors, policemen, firemen, train drivers etc. go down with it we will all fell the affects of it. But what do you expect the government to do if these people are unable to function because they are unwell? Perhaps they should import replacements? Get real!!

I am too appalled by the lack of common sense of other people in regard to spreading it around.
There was 4 cases of it at my childrens school the last of term.
One mum I know has 3 children, the last week of school, her eldest went down with swine flu and was perscribed tamiflu, yet she sent the other 2 children into school, saying she wanted out them of her hair and that it best the other kids catch the virus now while its summer! One of my children was in the same class as her youngest,I kept mine home!!!
Also another mum who works with disabled children, had her son go down it,yet she still went to work every day, even going away with the weekend with them, while her mum looked after her sick child.
I am doing my best to not go to crowded places and teaching my children strict hand washing...it's annoying when no one else seems to care!

Strange how so many people are pestering NHS for Tamiflu - I suppose some of them are the same people that can't be bothered to get their kids MMR (measles causes blindness and death, mumps causes sterility in adults, and is at least b****y painful, and as for rubella-nuff said). Don't they realise they only get one shot with Tamiflu, I'll wait until it's absolutely neccessary.
