What is Fibre broadband?

Fibre Broadband is made up of fibre optic cables which offer some of the fastest broadband speeds available. Unlike copper cables used for standard ADSL broadband, fibre optic cables use thin strands of glass to transmit information at the speed of light.

With TalkTalk Fibre Broadband you will have a faster and more reliable connection that will allow you to achieve download speeds of up to 38Mbs on our Fibre Medium package and up to 76Mbs on Fibre Large. Unlike regular broadband, streaming HD videos, downloading files as well as uploading photos will never be a problem as with our Fibre service the whole family can enjoy surfing the internet at the same time without slowing the service down.

Can I get Fibre?

The Fibre network is growing! Two thirds of UK homes will be able to get Fibre by Spring 2014. To check if you can get Fibre in your area, click on any of our Fibre packages, enter your telephone number and postcode and we will tell you if you can get Fibre and also calculate the broadband speed you can get.

How long will it take for Fibre broadband to be up and running?

Your service can take up to 10 working days from the date you placed the order before you go live. It may take a little bit longer if we need BT to install a new line at your premises.

When will I be told about my Fibre Broadband engineer appointment?

You will receive your Fibre installation appointment date when you place your order. We will send you e-mail and SMS appointment reminders two days before your installation date. You can check and manage this date at any time by logging in to MyAccount up until 12pm the working day before the appointment.

What if I want to change my engineer appointment date?

You can check and manage your appointment date at any time by logging in to your MyAccount. If you are unhappy with your appointment date, you can change it provided you do so by 12pm the working day before the appointment.

Why do you charge line rental for broadband?

Line rental is the cost that all phone and broadband providers charge for an active phone line into your home.

Some providers use phone lines that are owned by BT which can mean higher line rental. At TalkTalk we own our network and that's why we can offer such great value broadband and competitive priced line rental. You could save even more by taking our annual Value Line Rental.

How much can I download?

As much as you want! Our Fibre packages has an unlimited download allowance giving you access to as much music, film and TV as you like.

Can I keep my phone number?

Yes, most customers can keep their existing phone number. If you need a new phone line installed at your premises, then we will provide you with a new phone number.

What happens if I'm switching from another broadband provider?

Switching to TalkTalk couldn't be easier. All you need to do is choose the package you want and we take care of the rest. Your old service will be cancelled as soon as your TalkTalk service starts so there won't be any overlap and you won't be double-charged. Your previous provider will credit you for any unused line rental.

When can I claim my FREE mobile SIM?

We want you to stay in touch more easily - wherever you are. We're giving you a Free mobile SIM as part of your Plus TV package. From December, we'll be in touch via email to let you know how you can claim it, at any time, during your contract.

When will I go live with TalkTalk?

Most customers go live on TalkTalk within 15 days. We will confirm your go-live date once we have all your details and can check your telephone line.

What happens if I'm switching from another broadband provider?

This will depend on whether you need a new telephone line installed or not. If you are simply switching your broadband provider we will handle everything:

Your old service will be cancelled just as ours starts

There won't be any service overlap: you won't be charged double

You will receive one more bill from your existing provider to pay for any calls made

You'll be credited by your previous line provider for any unused rental

If your address does not have a line that TalkTalk can use, then we will install a new telephone line at that address.

Sky TV customers and Virgin Broadband and TV customers should cancel existing contracts once your new TalkTalk service is live.

Why do you charge line rental for broadband?

TV engineer installation

£25.00 welcome credit is available to all customers signing up to TV via talktalk.co.uk. If TalkTalk need to change your appointment, we will text you with a new date and time slot. If for any reason, you are unable to make this appointment, please contact us or visit MyAccount. A decision making adult, preferably the account holder, will need to be available for the duration of the appointment time. Call charges

All calls will be charged at the standard rate except calls to TalkTalk customers which are inclusive up to a max of 180 minutes, then charged at standard rates.

Unlimited calls to TalkTalk customers

We offer unlimited calls between most TalkTalk customers. Unfortunately this offer doesn't relate to calls made through a TalkTalk four-digit access code or dialler box. The maximum call time is 3 hours per call but if you would like to keep chatting you can call back before 3 hours is up to avoid our standard call rate charges.

Value Line rental

Value Line rental (VLR) is available to customers paying £172.20 in advance for 12 months by debit/credit card. Standard early termination charges still apply. Customers currently on discounted line rental will lose their existing discount. Existing customers already on VLR who upgrade to a different TalkTalk package will incur full line rental cost at the end of the initial VLR term. TalkTalk reserves the right to charge line rental to the full price of £16.70 should the initial upfront payment be reversed or charged back.

We know how important broadband speeds are to our customers which is why we've signed up to Ofcom's broadband speeds voluntary code of practice and why we'll always give you the fastest speed your line can handle. We've estimated your line speed based on the actual speeds measured on our Fibre optic broadband services.

We'll do everything we can to try and give you a great experience online but the speed you experience is likely to be affected by certain things outside of our control like the distance your home is from the telephone exchange, the specification of your PC and the condition of the wiring in your home.
